A Love Letter to France

At Daphne’s, our shelves are lined with treasures from France. Pieces that carry with them a sense of heritage, artistry and everyday beauty.
French brands remind us that even the most practical objects, a set of cutlery, a kitchen towel, a bar of soap, can be designed with poetry, creating a balance between usefulness and charm, simplicity and elegance.
I first visited France at three years old, returning many times and even completed a French sub-major at university (please don’t test me!). For my 25th birthday, I spent a week in Paris solo, and decided I would buy myself a Chanel bag to mark the occasion. I decided on the small classic 11.12 in black lambskin. Easily the most money I’d every spent. To celebrate, I hopped over to a restaurant at the end of Rue Saint Honoré and, ironically, after such a splurge, ordered the cheapest item on the menu.
Once I returned home to Australia, I remember my Mum looking up the price of the bag and being horrified I had spent that much money. I somehow managed to convince her I had bought it on sale. Mind you, the bag is currently with her as she recently borrowed it for an event ...
Almost ten years on, I still carry this bag and hope to one day pass it on to my daughter. This is the philosophy I hope to hold with Daphne’s. That the pieces you find from us, will be used and loved for many years to come, and one day perhaps, find themselves being fought over by the next generation.
