Our rimmed pewter vases were imagined as modern urns, curvaceous containers in classic proportions, with a larger capacity for flowers.
While most pewter pieces are cast, these treasures are spun from two discs of pewter, one for the body and another for the base. Spinning is a process by which a disc of pewter is rotated at high speed and formed into a symmetrical shape. A high degree of skill is required to smoothly shape the final contours and details. The base is formed in a similar manner and joined to the body by soldering.
Cosi Tabellini have been handcrafting pewter in Brescia since 1954, three generations of a family working in the artisanal tradition of Northern Italy. Their workshop sits near Lake Garda, in a region famous for centuries of skilled pewter craft. Each piece is cast by hand from a lead-free alloy of tin, antimony and copper, fully food-safe and built to improve with age.
